Ben Goymour – The Sun’s Reflection
Ben Goymour – The Sun’s Reflection, Original, Hand Signed Painting.
Ben was born in 1985 and lived in Peterborough most of his civilian life. Subsequently, joining the Army at 16 and then serving in 29 Commando Regiment as a Bombardier. During that time, he did many tours including training in America with the US Marines, and three tours in Norway completing Arctic Leadership training. He was sent there as a test. They thought if he could lead in the Arctic he could lead anywhere. At the time there was no one else who fit the bill for the job he was training to do. So at the age of 20 yrs old he was deployed to Afghanistan as a Section Commander.
After leaving the Army and becoming a builder & carpenter, he first picked up a brush in February 2017. It was after a hiking trip to the Lake District. When he couldn’t afford a painting he loved in a local gallery, he decided to paint one for himself. Little did he know that a new career was about to unfold….
Ben became completely obsessed with painting using every spare moment he could. Getting up at 4am to paint before a full day’s work on site for his building company, then painting all evening became a regular pattern.
After a year of obsessive painting Ben’s wife approached some local galleries and famous artist Roz Bell, (without him knowing, and for which he is eternally grateful). That became the start of Ben’s new self-taught career as a professional artist.
In January 2021, demand for Ben’s art had grown enough for him to close the building company and paint full time.
His inspiration comes from his passion for nature and adventure. Weekends are filled with wild camping, hiking and most recently paddle boarding! Snapping reference photos wherever he goes.
For the most part, spending hours studying how light falls on different landscapes. Light has become the main focus of his fine art landscape and seascape paintings. “I love to create a sense of feeling and mood, which is only possible when seen through the eyes of the beholder”. His ability to capture that “you just had to be there” feeling in every painting.
Moreover, a love of creating new ranges and experimenting with different “styles” and techniques. The latest contemporary animal artwork collection is miles away from how he would paint his Seascapes, but isn’t the power of “Artistic Licence” a wonderful thing?
