Biography
Ben Payne – Fair Skies Ahead
Ben Payne has worked as a professional artist for over twenty years. He creates evocative paintings that invite the viewer into calm, escapist landscapes.
Before becoming a full-time painter, Ben worked as a Behavioural Therapist specialising in Autism. He found the role rewarding. However, his need to paint never faded. As a result, he chose to follow his creative path.
A Largely Self-Taught Artist
Ben is largely self-taught. Nevertheless, his late mother, a skilled artist, played an important role in his early development. She taught him the importance of observation and strong draftsmanship. These foundations still influence his work today.
In addition, Ben set himself a major challenge. Over several years, he created one thousand small study paintings. This process sharpened his technique. At the same time, it built confidence and consistency.
Global Collectors and Continued Growth
These small studies sold to collectors worldwide. As a result, Ben’s work reached buyers in 22 different countries. Ben describes this achievement as humbling. More importantly, it proved essential to his long-term success as a painter.
Inspired by the British Coastline
From the beginning, the British coastline inspired Ben’s work. He has always felt drawn to the sea. While he enjoys landscape painting, the coast remains central to his practice. Standing on a beach beneath a wide sky offers complete escapism.
Therefore, his paintings focus on space, light, and calm. He describes his style as “imagined realism”. In every scene, he searches for an idealised moment.
Studio Life and Travel
Today, Ben Payne works from his studio near the south coast. However, he regularly travels across the UK and beyond. By doing so, he gathers fresh inspiration for new paintings.
