In 1954, Jean Picton was invited to become a Windmill Girl at the renowned Windmill Theatre in London’s West End. During her tenure, she collaborated with legends like Harry Secombe and Bruce Forsyth, marking the beginning of a distinguished career in entertainment.
In the 1970s, Jean Picton spent time in the USA, representing the UK and British culture with her captivating cabaret act. She performed at prestigious venues including the Chicago Hilton Hotel and the Carlton Hotel in New York. Additionally, Jean became a regular guest on Joey Adams’ popular chat show, “Coast to Coast.”
The 1980s saw Jean Picton return to England, where she frequently appeared on British television. She was featured in shows like “Hi-de-hi,” “EastEnders,” and various TV commercials. Concurrently, Jean continued to shine on the British cabaret circuit, solidifying her status as a seasoned performer.
Upon retiring from show business in the early 1990s, Jean Picton discovered her passion for painting. Realizing her artistic talent, she pursued a serious path in art, earning a BA Hons degree in Fine Art in 2002.
Jean Picton’s work transcends mere floral representation, focusing on the nuances of tonal values, composition, and line work. Her artistic journey has evolved from minimalist poppy images to intricate, structured paintings rich in color. A pivotal moment in her development was a 2011 visit to India, where the vibrant colors inspired her to explore the dynamic interplay of hues on canvas. This experience led to her current large-scale abstract works, characterized by intensified colors and a resin finish that enhances movement within the pieces.
Since obtaining her degree, Jean Picton’s career as an artist has flourished.
