John Russell – Ochre Trees – Original
John Russell – Ochre Trees – Original Artwork, Hand Signed
Living on a farm in the north of England, Scottish artist John Russell is inspired by the rural landscape in which he lives. Consequently, John creates paintings from the familiar scenes around him. In addition to those places he has visited all over Britain, from Highland crofts to Cornish mines.
The paintings are often composed of vast dark skies which he contrasts with highly textured foregrounds. Despite this remote subject matter, the strip of lighting John applies to the foreground offers a contrasting comforting glow. Indeed he has been able to combine traditional subject matter with a contemporary, fresh approach. Undoubtedly creating paintings which are becoming more sought after.
Acrylics on Board Technique
Acrylic paint lends itself well to mixed media applications, which further broadens the possibilities of painting with acrylics. The most popular surfaces for painting with acrylics are canvas, wood, or paper. But once primed with gesso, acrylics can be painted on almost any surface, such as fabric, clay, or even your old vinyl records! If you get bored with the brush, you can use a variety of other tools, such as scrapers, toothpicks, sponges, Q-tips, etc to create various effects.
The final finish of the painting can be altered with gloss, matte, or satin varnish.
