Background

Martin Fowkes has had an interest in photography all his life. He has qualifications in a number of disciplines, but his favourite areas have always been wildlife and landscape photography. Subsequently, he enjoys photographing in the UK especially in Cornwall and the Lake District. Additionally, he has also visited Finland to photograph brown bears and India to photograph tigers.

Lion Aid

Undoubtedly, his passion is Africa and he has spent a considerable amount of time in Kenya. Furthermore, during his visits, Martin has received the privilege of the services of Joseph, a Masai guide who is now also a friend. Joseph is an invaluable source of information and he has inspired Martin to encourage others to take an active interest in conservation. In addition to this, Fowkes firmly believes that the power and the reach of photography is an important tool in promoting the plight of endangered species. Also, the magnificent, but often fragile environments in which they live. As weel as that, he supports organisations such as ‘Save the Rhino’ and the Guba Dida primary school in Kenya. He also works with ‘Lion Aid’ and has donated images which are widely used by them for publicity purposes and to raise funds for their invaluable work.

What is a Giclée Print? – pronounced ‘zhee-klay’

Giclee is a French word meaning ‘a spray or a squirt of liquid’. Because of this, Jack Duganne coined the term ‘Giclée’. The term ‘giclée print’ is used to describe the giclée printing process. Accordingly, images are created from the high-resolution digital capture of original artwork. Then they are printed using archival quality inks onto archival fine art substrates. Hence, canvas and fine art papers are used to achieve giclée prints with exceptional stability and lightfastness.
