Background

Michelle Mackie, also known as Dolly is a self-taught photographer, digital artist and visual story- teller. Accordingly, it is with these tools that Michelle has been able to explore her own psyche. Consequently, recreating forgotten joys and life’s loves, whilst vanquishing past tragedies and trauma.

Inspiration

In addition, she is forever daydreaming, and gets to create some of what goes on in her busy little head for all to see. Conversely, she is a natural light photographer. Hence, she creates fine art conceptual pieces as well as creative portraiture. Also, she loves to work on story telling pictures. However, she also has a passion for working on dark art (dark beauty) and very emotive pieces.
What was a hobby and an escape of sorts for this busy working mum, soon became much more. Subsequently, in 2014 Michelle was asked to exhibit her work in a local gallery. It was this that forged her on to build her skills and passion, finally leading to finding her own unique style.

Nightmares and Magic

As a result of combining the power of nightmares and the magic of fairy tales, Michelle presents her inner self. Undoubtedly, her memories, fears and dreams in an art form can provoke powerful emotions. Connecting with people in ways she never Imagined.

Style

Before considering reaching for her camera, every project is meticulously pre-conceptualized. Afterward, only when the piece is thoroughly planned does the work begin.
In summary, a location is sourced, and a model chosen, props are chosen and wardrobe is picked. In addition the angles from which shots need taken are already written down in one of her many note pads. Finally, once Michelle has all she needs it’s time to get creative digitally. First she stitches photo’s together using layers and layer masks. Then she gets to work on her textures and colour pallet that give that extra surreal tones.
