Background

Neil Pengelly is a full-time mixed media artist based in Northamptonshire. With no formal training but a passion for artworks and making things. Subsequently, Neil has refined his artistic skills through hard work, determination and a natural eye for a good aesthetic.

Technique

His creations have evolved from the contemporary chalk and charcoal figurative pieces to a more exciting and looser blaze of colours with varying subject matters. He has found that that there are limitless possibilities with mixed media art. Particularly that he would never be able to recreate with paintbrushes and pencils. Furthermore, in his authenticity to his art, each original is resplendent with added touches of acrylic and oil paints. As well as that, they are bejewelled with diamond dust and micro glitters.

Influences

Without a doubt he is influenced by modern-day mixed media artists’ such as Dan Pearce and Mark Davies. Indeed in being able to create visually stunning, vibrant and engaging artwork. As a result, his works have become popular enough that he was asked by the renown publisher, Creative Fine Art, to allow them to represent him. His originals and prints will now be in galleries across the UK and are selling incredibly well. Neil is happily married and has two daughters and a son. He also runs his own picture framing studio so is kept busy all the time!

One of the most fascinating qualities of Neil’s work is is ability to add references from entertainment, pop culture and (occasionally) politics and make them meaningful within the image.

“A rolling stone gathers no moss” – Most artists usually add a saying or motto to their bio, so this is mine. It means nothing to me whatsoever, but thought I’d better come up with one.” Neil Pengelly

What is a Giclée Print? – pronounced ‘zhee-klay’

So, a giclée print is a high quality fine art reproduction. Archival pigment inks are sprayed on to an archival fine art paper or canvas.
Because of this, Jack Duganne coined the term ‘Giclée’, since it’s a French word meaning ‘a spray or a squirt of liquid’. The term ‘giclée print’ is used to describe the giclée printing process. Accordingly, images are created from the high-resolution digital capture of original artwork. Then they are printed using archival quality inks onto archival fine art substrates. Hence, canvas and fine art papers are used to achieve giclée prints with exceptional stability and lightfastness.
