Biography

Robert Mars – Stars and Smiles

Education and Early Recognition

Robert Mars graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York. From the outset, he developed a bold visual language defined by layered imagery and striking colour. As a result, his work was selected for the Absolut Vodka Blank campaign, where it appeared alongside artists such as Damien Hirst. Shortly afterwards, Philip Morris / Altria acquired one of his largest works for their corporate headquarters in Virginia.

International Exposure and Brand Collaborations

In 2015, Mars was chosen for the cover of Neiman Marcus’ May Book. At the same time, his work gained attention from major global brands. Coca-Cola purchased several existing artworks and commissioned new pieces for a world tour celebrating the 100-year anniversary of its iconic bottle. Consequently, Mars’ artwork featured prominently throughout the international exhibition.

Exhibitions and Professional Practice

In addition to his studio practice, Mars works across fine art and design. For example, he is a featured artist for a bespoke wallpaper and tile collection with Kari Whitman Interiors. Furthermore, he will present a solo exhibition at the Evansville Museum of Art, where he will serve as artist in residence and guest lecturer.

Style and Artistic Influences

Robert Mars draws inspiration from 1950s and 1960s American iconography. In particular, his work celebrates vintage advertising, typography and cultural symbols from post-war America. He builds each composition through layered textures, colour and reclaimed printed material. As a result, his artworks feel nostalgic while remaining distinctly contemporary.

Pop Art Legacy and Contemporary Themes

Critics often compare Mars’ work to Pop Art masters such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Richard Diebenkorn. However, in recent years his focus has shifted toward celebrity culture. Through this lens, he explores how iconic public figures continue to shape modern visual culture and resonate with collectors worldwide.

Collections and Global Presence

Today, Robert Mars exhibits internationally, with work held in museum and private collections across Munich, Tokyo, Amsterdam, London, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Aspen and Naples. Ultimately, his artwork appeals to collectors who value strong narrative, cultural relevance and bold visual impact.
