Biography

Sarah Spofforth
Categorising my work has always troubled me but have settled on ‘textual art’ as the best description of my use of mixed mediums to create contemporary artwork with a rustic charm.

I trained as an Interior Designer at Manchester Metropolitan University and then worked for several Architects around Liverpool and Manchester, but my passion was always for art and whenever I got a moment would be covered in paint.
Then I met Farmer Tom and everything changed, I moved to Scotland and became a Farmers wife! From Interior Design to lambing!
In my new farm surrounding painting animals was a natural progression, a corner of the cattle shed became my new studio and gave me the freedom to go wild (get messy). My experimental use of different materials like fabric samples and plaster helps me add texture, character and brings the paintings out from the canvas.

I started doing local Craft markets as an outlet for my artwork and have slowly worked up to launching myself at events like Crufts, Country Living and The Royal Highland Show. Some of my commissions can be found hanging in Blair Drummond Safari Park, The Lake at the Port of Menteith restaurant, Kings Home, Bar 10 and homes from New Zealand to America.

I have now lived in Scotland for 15 years and I’m celebrating 10 years of my home grown family business McSpoff-ART with the help of Farmer Tom, my 3 kids and Bonnie the Miniature Schnauzer !
