Biography
Veronika Benoni – The Meeting Place
Childhood and Early Influences
Veronika Benoni discovered her love of painting during childhood. In particular, her memories of painting and conversations with her grandfather had a lasting impact. These early experiences continue to influence her artistic journey today.
She later studied at the College of Arts in Leningrad, where she developed her technical skills. After graduating, she continued her training by attending classes at the USSR Academy of Arts. As a result, she built a strong academic foundation that still underpins her work.
A Creative Partnership
During a summer vacation, Veronika met Ulian Benoni. From the beginning, they shared similar artistic interests and quickly formed a creative partnership. Together, they worked as silversmiths, designing jewellery that became highly successful.
In fact, their pieces were among the bestsellers in jewellery stores across Moscow and Leningrad. This success marked an important stage in their creative development.
Life and Work in Prague
Later, Veronika and Ulian settled in Prague. Here, Veronika began painting and selling artworks inspired by the city’s historic streets and architecture. Consequently, her work developed a strong sense of place and atmosphere.
In 1998, the Benonis established their own school of graphics and painting. A few years later, in 2001, they opened the school in Mala Strana, a central and culturally rich area of Prague. Since then, the school has grown into a hub for artistic exploration and learning.
Artistic Style and Technique
Today, the Benoni School is known for its innovative approach to painting. In particular, it focuses on new techniques that explore how to represent multidimensional space on a flat surface.
One key method is the use of elliptical perspective. This technique creates the illusion that the viewer is being drawn into the centre of the composition. As a result, the artwork feels immersive and engaging.
At the same time, the school continues to respect traditional approaches to modern painting. Under the guidance of the Benoni masters, students develop both technical skill and creative expression.
