Oshe – Artist Biography
A Distinctive Vision of Place and Simplicity

British artist Oshe creates striking artworks that simplify the complexity of everyday life into bold, atmospheric compositions. His distinctive style focuses on clean forms, balanced colour palettes, and carefully edited scenes that allow viewers to experience a powerful sense of place.

Rather than recreating every detail of reality, Oshe removes peripheral elements and limits colour choices. As a result, the viewer’s eye focuses on shape, structure, and atmosphere. The human brain naturally fills in the missing information, creating a complete visual experience from only part of the image.

As Oshe explains, “The human brain is a very clever bit of kit and visually we only need half the information to make sense of the full picture – it’s just knowing which half and what colour.”

Early Inspiration and Artistic Influences

Oshe’s artistic journey began during childhood in Liverpool. A poster advertising the historic Liverpool Overhead Railway, displayed on the kitchen wall of his family home, became a powerful early influence.

The poster transformed the busy industrial waterfront into a harmonious arrangement of colour and shape. Despite the noise and dirt of the real-life scene, the artwork presented the River Mersey as a beautiful Mediterranean blue. This striking visual interpretation sparked Oshe’s fascination with the power of design and colour to reshape reality.

From that moment, he became captivated by the ability of art to evoke emotion and atmosphere while simplifying the world around us.

A Love of Graphic Design and Poster Art

Oshe draws strong inspiration from the poster art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly the golden age of travel and advertising posters. These works celebrated bold composition, limited colour palettes, and powerful graphic design.

This influence can clearly be seen in Oshe’s contemporary artworks, where landscapes, coastlines, and architectural scenes are distilled into elegant compositions that feel both nostalgic and modern.

His childhood interests also played an important role in shaping his visual language. A fascination with Lego, early paint-by-number kits, and tactile creativity helped develop his appreciation for structure, form, and simplified colour relationships.

Creating “Luxe Vistas”

Oshe describes many of his artworks as “luxe vistas”—stylised scenes that capture the atmosphere of a place rather than a specific moment in time.

By stripping away unnecessary detail, he invites the viewer to engage with the essence of the location. The result is artwork that feels calm, balanced, and timeless.

These visually striking compositions work beautifully in contemporary interiors, where their bold shapes and harmonious colours create an immediate focal point.

The Story Behind the Oshe Logo

Oshe’s playful and distinctive logo is inspired by an unexpected source: fruit stickers.

He has long been fascinated by these small, colourful labels. To him, they represent sunshine, vibrant colours, and a charming sense of heritage that predates modern sticker culture.

The simple badge design also works perfectly alongside his artwork and promotional materials, acting as a recognisable symbol for a commissionable artist.

As Oshe humorously explains, “Actually it’s more than likely just an excuse to make my own fruit stickers!”
